SPORTCRAFT PADDLE

TRIPS

The following is a list of some of the trips we’re taking this summer. We invite you to join us. There is no fee unless you need to rent equipment. Bring your own snacks and drinking water. Come for free or pay a fee. It will all be fun. Reserve early if you’re renting.

Sportcraft Marina

Locks trip

Locks TripWe call this the Locks trip because we paddle our canoe through the Willamette Falls Locks. It’s really quite exciting, especially if you’ve never done it before. We leave the boat ramp of Sportcraft Landing at Cancelled and arrive at Willamette Park in West Linn at about noon. The locks will raise us 40 feet in 45 minutes. Leave a car at Willamette Park, unless you’re renting or paddling back to Sportcraft. The locks will not be opened for 2009.

It Might Rain trip

We will put in at the Jefferson Street Boat ramp in Milwaukie and paddle up river to George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego. You can pull out there or paddle back. We will be leaving at (TO BE POSTED AT LATER DATE). We do know we'll be back about 3 hours later. We also know it might rain , bring your rain gear. Give us a call if you're interested in joining us. If, when you call, we have more information we'll be happy to share it with you.

Day Break trip

Sportcraft MarinaThe other end of the day. We plan to be in our canoe and on the water by 5:00 a.m. We want to observe sunrise from our boat. We expect to see early morning animal life, like rowing shells and dragon boats. Our put-in is (TO BE POSTED AT LATER DATE) at Sellwood Park, near Oaks Park. The distance is 4 ½ miles around Ross Island then back to Sellwood Park. We should be done about the time you would normally be getting out of bed.

Solo Boat Trip

The location of this cruise will be determined at a later date but it will happen on(TO BE POSTED AT LATER DATE). We encourage every one to be in a solo canoe. You may be in a tandem canoe as long as you're alone. The trip starts at 6:30 PM. Consider this as much learning and practice session as a pleasant and scenic tour. There will be a solo canoe paddling demonstration before the trip at 5:30.

Moonlight Trip

It's going to be a later evening. Our plan is to build a campfire on Little Rock Island, eat some low sodium, high fiber, fat-free hot dogs and wait for the sun to go down.  After a little stargazing and some night photography, we're paddling back to our put-in at Willamette Park in West Linn. We will begin our trip at 6:30 pm (TO BE POSTED AT LATER DATE).

P.S. Remember, a flashlight is required on board between sunset and sunrise.
