SPORTCRAFT CANOE AND KAYAK TRIPS
Northwest Canoe/Kayak Tours
These tours are in the Portland, Oregon area. Willamette River, Sauvie Island and through the Locks in Oregon City. We will rent Wenonah Canoes or canoeing equipment. If you have your own canoe or kayak and equipment there is no fee, just come for free. You need to bring your own snacks and drinking water. The following is a list of some of the trips we are taking this summer.
Come for free or pay a fee. It will all be fun. Reserve early if you’re renting.
It Might Rain Trip Sunday June 27
Our destination for this trip has not been determined at this writing. What we do know is that we’re leaving someplace at 3:00 PM on Sunday June 27. We do know we’ll be back about 3 hours later. We also know it might rain, bring your rain gear. Give us a call if you’re interested in joining us. If, when you call, we have more information we’ll be happy to share it with you.
Solo Boat Trip Saturday July 10
The location of this cruise will be determined at a later date but it will happen on Saturday July 10. We encourage every one to be in a solo canoe. You may be in a tandem canoe as long as you’re alone. The trip starts at 10:00AM. Consider this as much a learning and practice session as a pleasant and scenic tour.
Sauvie Island Trip Saturday July 24
Saturday July 24. We have personally talked to the Great Canoe God and he has assured us that July 24 will be a beautiful day.
We will see lots of birds maybe some little critters and if we are real lucky we might even see a cow. Bring your lunch, water, a canoe if you have one, a camera if you have one and a sweetheart if you have one. We don’t know how long we’ll be gone but we do know we’re not in a hurry.
We will be on the water at 10:00 am. Call us (503) 656-6484 for put in location.
Day Break Trip Saturday August 7
We plan to be in our canoe and on the water by 5:30 a.m. We want to observe sunrise from our boat. We expect to see early morning animal life, like rowing shells and dragon boats. Our put in is Saturday August 7 at Sellwood Park, near Oaks Park. The distance is 4 ½ miles around Ross Island then back to Sellwood Park. We should be done about the time you would normally be getting out of bed.
Locks Trip Saturday August 21
We call this the Locks Trip because we paddle our canoe through the Willamette Falls Locks. It’s really quite exciting, especially if you’ve never done it before. We leave the boat ramp of Sportcraft Landing at 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 21 and arrive at Willamette Park in West Linn about noon. The locks will raise us 40 feet in 45 minutes, leave a car at Willamette Park, unless you’re renting, or paddling back to Sportcraft
Moonlight Trip Tuesday August 24
It’s going to be a late evening. Our plan is to build a campfire on Little Rock Island, eat some low sodium, high fiber, fat free hot dogs and wait for the moon to rise (about 8:45 PM). After a little stargazing and some night photography, we’re paddling back to our put in, which is Willamette Park in West Linn. We will begin our trip at 6:30 PM Tuesday August 24.
P.S. = A flashlight is required on board between sunset and sunrise
