A Short History of Sportcraft Marina

The present ownership has been in business since 1979, however the business has been at the same location since the 1930s. Then it was only a bait shop and rowboat livery. There was no dock, so the rental boats were dragged onto the beach when not in use. Outboard motors were not real dependable. So upon renting a boat you would often hire an eager Oregon City High School student to row it for you—about 50 cents a day was an acceptable rate.

In the 70s Sportcraft secured a Honda Marine dealership. Since then we have been so successful with Honda sales and service that we are not only the oldest dealership in the United States, but are consistently one of the largest volume dealers in the nation. In 1982 we added Suzuki marine, which has been an excellent product for us. We are currently dealers for C-Dory, Olympic, Skagit Orca, and Wooldrige boats as well. All quality boat lines we are very happy with.

Sportcraft began selling canoes in 1969. It was started with an inventory of six canoes and a few paddles. Over the years we have dealt with many different canoe manufacturers and are familiar with them. We have settled with We-no-nah canoes as our major line and are now one of the oldest and largest We-no-nah dealerships in our nation's West. What started as a "side line" of six canoes has grown into a spring and summer inventory of approximately 100 canoes and kayaks with a demo and rental fleet of 30 boats. Our number of accessories have outgrown our space so if you don't see what you want, just ask for it. We have been involved in canoe lessons for 18 years and are very proud to have been instrumental in some of the finest paddlers of today.
